The Civil Service Examination (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is commonly referred to as the IAS exam and is attempted by thousands of students annually. The UPSC 2024 Exam consists of three stages: prelims, mains, and interview. Exam Calender:

The UPSC has recently made available the UPSC 2024 Exam Schedule on its official website @upsc.gov.in. The calendar includes essential dates for notifications, online registration, and the examination itself.

As per the official UPSC Calendar 2024 unveiled on 10th May 2023, the UPSC Exam Date 2024 is set for 16th June 2024, with the UPSC Mains 2024 starting on 20th September 2024.

Exam Notification:

As per the official UPSC Calendar 2024 released on May 10, 2023, the UPSC Exam Date 2024 was initially set for May 26, 2024, with the UPSC Mains 2024 scheduled to begin on September 20, 2024. However, in light of the upcoming general election, the UPSC has decided to postpone the UPSC 2024 Exam prelims, which also functions as a screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination 2024, from May 26, 2024, to June 16, 2024. No announcement has been made regarding the CSE main examination, so it will proceed as planned on September 20, 2024.

New Exam Date:

Please take note that the UPSC 2024 Exam date for prelims has been rescheduled from May 26 2024 to 16th June due to the General Elections. Candidates are advised to mark the new date for UPSC prelims 2024. The UPSC Mains 2024 will proceed as scheduled, commencing from 20th September 2024.

Eligibility Criteria:

The UPSC 2024 Examination has set minimal eligibility requirements for candidates to participate. This is why a large number of candidates apply for the exam, in contrast to specialized services like Engineering Service. To be eligible for the IAS Examination, candidates must primarily meet two types of criteria: age and educational qualifications. Furthermore, there are restrictions on the number of attempts allowed, physical fitness requirements, and citizenship criteria. The minimum educational qualification for the IAS Examination is as follows:

  • Age:
        Candidates applying for the UPSC 2024 Exam must be between 21 and 32 years of             age in order to be eligible, with reference to August 1, 2024.

  • Nationality:
        The UPSC 2024 Exam requires candidates to meet citizenship criteria in order to be             eligible for Grade-A Services like IAS, IPS, and IFS.

An individual from India, or An individual from Nepal, or An individual from Bhutan, or A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India prior to January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement, or A Person of Indian origin (PIO) who has relocated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zaire, or Vietnam, for the purpose of permanent settlement in India.

Candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees, or PIOs from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zaire, and Vietnam, who wish to permanently settle in India, are required to provide a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India in order to be appointed, despite being eligible to take the exam without it.

Educational Qualification:

The minimum qualification for IAS requires candidates to have graduated from a recognized university or hold an equivalent qualification. Final year graduates and those with professional or technical qualifications recognized by the Government are also eligible to appear for the UPSC 2024 Exam. Medical students who have not completed their internship despite passing the final year of MBBS can also apply, provided they submit a course completion certificate with their Mains Exam application.

Medical Criteria:

Candidates aiming to pass the UPSC 2024 Exam must meet specific physical fitness requirements. Failing to meet these standards may result in disqualification from the selection process. 
To qualify for positions such as IPS officers in districts, Indian Railway services, and police services in Pondicherry, candidates must meet the required weight, height, and chest measurements.

Steps to Apply Online :

The process of completing the OTR form for the UPSC 2024 Exam has recently been updated. It is now mandatory to first register on the OTR application before proceeding with the form filling process.

Filling out the OTR form

  • Step 1: Visit the official UPSC website to access the OTR form.
  • Step 2: New candidates must select the “New Registration” tab to create an account on the portal.
  • Step 3: Enter personal details such as name, parent’s name, and address.
  • Step 4: Upon successful registration, a confirmation notification will be sent to the candidate.
  • Step 5: Candidates can then apply for any UPSC exam directly through the OTR portal.
